ABOUT US

The Groupe de Recherche Universitaire sur les Mutations en Afrique
Contemporaine (GRUMAC) is an interdisciplinary academic platform of the History
Department of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Douala, developes
studies of social, political, cultural and economic dynamics in contemporary Africa. It
was founded in Douala on 8 January 2024. It brings together researchers, students
and professionals wishing to gain a better understanding of current developments on the African continent, with the aim of contributing to the production of knowledge rooted in local realities and in dialogue with global perspectives. GRUMAC seeks to make significant contributions to academic debate and to support critical reflection on contemporary issues on the African continent. It has set itself (07) priority missions:


- to organise transdisciplinary research; to promote critical methodologies; ; to
organize academic and scientific exchanges; to promote local and traditional
knowledge; to support training and skills development; to contribute to the
dissemination of knowledge; to strengthen the regional and international
collaboration networks.


Main axis of research: 1: History, Heritage, Memory and Historiography of Struggles
and Repression ; 2: Power, citizenship and political change; 3: Changing cultures,
identities and imaginaries; 4 : Gender, women's struggles and social justice; 5:
Decentred knowledge, insurgent knowledge and critical epistemologies


In May 2024, GRUMAC organised the first International Conference on
internal diasporas in Africa, held at the University of Douala and the Hotel Généva. It
regularly organizes and runs methodological seminars.

The Center for African Studies of the University of Porto (CEAUP) is a multidisciplinary research and cooperation organization established on November 10, 1997. It brings together researchers, faculty, and students from national and international institutions.
